I made the announcement that it was time we made a change. I got the usual reaction – a raised eyebrow from the wife and a groan and a few “Oh no’s” from the kids. Every year we took a holiday and went somewhere on the continent. Madeira, a Portuguese island, Spanish beaches, Prague, Venice and one year we did the stone beaches of Croatia. I said we needed to do something different and to consider staying in good ole UK for a change!

Yes, the weather might be a problem, but it’s always an issue in England, so we should make the best of it. It was winter now and who knows what the summer might bring. I scrolled through the business apps on my iPad to see what I could find that might inspire some discussion and surprise among the family. Unlike my kids, my device was relatively app free because I didn’t get around to playing too many games. I don’t know who would come up with a new idea and might LaunchApp it so that it might cater for something a human being can use to make life easier.

I had the usual stuff for booking holidays like Trip Advisor, Booking.com and Skyscanner and occasionally accessed Air BNB but trying to find something a little different might require a bit more investigation. It was while I was surfing the net and allowing my mind to wander along beautiful beaches that were featured on websites that I came across the term ‘Glamping’. Curiosity got the better of me and I had to check it out. I wondered why the website, once I looked, didn’t have an app to use. It seemed fascinating enough and they should seriously think about going to a mobile app development company to launch an app for the site.

After quite a bit of reading that was available on the site, I was convinced that this was going to be our next holiday. It was a matter of putting a few of the sites listed on the site in front of the family and getting them to agree. Not everybody is into camping but this form of ‘roughing’ it seemed a far cry from what most of us would imagine a holiday in a forest or in somebody’s backyard, so to speak. Luxury accommodation but we would be at one with nature. You had the option of wandering around not only your camping area but the surrounding countryside as well.

We had lived in the UK all our lives and really hadn’t seen a lot of it apart from the closer districts and towns. Glamping meant that we could get away from it all, drive through English countryside, and visit places we had never seen. No language difficulties, no cramped seats flying, no security check at airports, no lousy service in hotels, no having to find a place to eat that served food the kids liked to eat and it was somewhat cheaper. You had different styles of accommodation to choose from and an incredible number of various sites. Glamping it was!
