Today’s interview is with Rachel at Nut Plat Retreat

Can you tell us a little bit about yourselves?

We are 58 and 52 years old and from Kent.

Have you always wanted to run a glamping site? How did you get interested in it?

Opportunity knocked when Rachel accepted a redundancy payment which covered the set up costs of the first sit. Having worked in sustainable rural tourism development it was an opportunity to finally do it for real.

What made you pick the location for your glamping site?

We’ve always been here and the land has been rather under-utilised.

Do you get a wide range of different people from different walks of life or are there certain types of guests who come to stay at your site?

Our main guests seem to be 25 to 35 year old creative people from the achingly trendy North and East London but we get other couples (and singles) too but we don’t welcome children…

When guests stay, do they usually cook on site or do you find a lot like to go exploring and eat out at local places?

Guests can BBQ on the Weber BBQs, cook on the open fire or even in the camp kitchen or eat at one of the 3 fantastic local pubs in easy walking range.

If there was one activity to participate in, landmark, or place of interest that you would recommend guests visit while staying at your site, what would it be and why?

They should just kick back and enjoy the open fire, starlit night sky and the cosy living vans.

What do you think sets your glamping site apart from others?

Guests are always surprised at the privacy and seclusion so close to London.

What has been the most memorable moment that has happened on your glamping site?

Our own daughter’s hen weekend and wedding are taking place here this summer.

Do you provide any services/entertainment/activities onsite or elsewhere for your guests?

We provide scrabble, monopoly and decks of cards.

What plans (if any) do you have for your glamping site in the future?

There is no room for any more private spaces (as that’s what guests are paying for) but they’re welcome to bring friends in their own tents.
