Camping has always been great as a money-saving holiday idea for families with young children. Even if you have no experience of it yourself, you will know someone who was in your class at school who had the horror/great stories of camping with their family.
Camping stories with families normally include forgetting half the pegs you need to put the tent up, dad hammering his thumb instead of the actual pegs and forgetting that the old gas canister you had was empty and you meant to replace it three months ago. Even if those sort of things didn’t happen – in Britain, there is one thing that is almost guaranteed to happen when you go camping – rain!
By the time you had finished exploring the lake and local countryside, taking lots of pictures and making rudimentary dens, it didn’t matter that you were covered in insect bites and had no clean underwear, you would always head home with a sense that it was the best holiday you had ever had.
That is from a kid’s point of view though, for adults it can often be a very different matter. You are woken in the night by kids wanting to go to the toilet and being too scared to go into the bushes alone, and who can blame them? It still doesn’t make it a fun occasion when you are trying to manoeuvre in the dark. Then there’s the constant whining when you first arrive because of the lack of “facilities”.
However, at Discover Glamping, we feel that more people should give camping holidays a chance. Not only do you get to experience a more natural and less synthetic environment, you are not stuck in front of a games console or all you can eat buffet in some resort. If you have been put off taking your kids on a camping holiday in the past though, now is the best time to try taking them on a glamping holiday.
The great thing about glamping is that it merges all the best parts of camping such as reconnecting and exploring the natural world and countryside, spending quality time together away from the mad rush and noisy devices of our modern world with luxury and comfort that you would expect from staying in a hotel.
Firstly, the types of tents that you have to stay in on a glamping holiday are not as thin as traditional camping tents, so you are not lying so close to the ground that you can feel all the bugs moving. Secondly, depending on where you choose to go glamping the tents available are generally a lot more spacious. So there is no more need to worry about how you are going to all comfortably fit inside the tent with your sleeping bags and pillows.
In fact, we reckon that some glamping sites have tents that look more spacious, comfortable and inviting than many top, affordable hotel rooms. Then there’s the unique factor that a glamping holiday has. Although it is gaining popularity every year, it is still interesting enough that it can be a talking point and if you choose to visit one of the more offbeat and quirky glamping sites either home or abroad, your children will have even more rave about to their mates.
The amenities available at the majority of glamping sites is another reason why you should consider it as there are often hot and cold showers, cooking facilities and various forms of entertainment for all members of your family to use and enjoy.
If you have a family pet it can be stressful and expensive organising family holidays because you normally can’t bring your pets with you. This means that you have to book your dogs into boarding kennels, unless you have a friend or relative that can look after them for the duration of your time away. Camping is obviously a good option in this situation, and the same can be said for glamping as many sites are pet-friendly.
Can you think of anything better than taking your family and pets on holiday for a memorable experience getting back to nature and simpler times, but in a very luxurious and comfortable setting?
No, neither can we 🙂
