In Lancashire, Blackpool may not be the automatic choice for campers (and, indeed, glampers) as the town is renowned for its beach, theme park, and leisure activities. Whilst there are more idyllic settings with rolling countryside (such as in Rivington, just outside Preston), Blackpool shouldn’t be sniffed at as it’s become something of a unique location for campers.
Whilst there are plenty of resorts to try out, the following five offer some unique experiences as well as being located close to the town. Let’s not forget, Blackpool has a fantastic cultural scene and nightlife. Whether you want to visit the theme park or go for a walk on the expansive beach, it’s a wonderful way to spend a camping trip, so take your pick from one of the following locations (or give them all a whirl).
- Stanley Villa Farm Camping
This charming location features 24 unique camping pods, so you can put aside your tent on this occasion. These pods are all of the same size and have beds, mattresses, are fully insulated, and come with a complimentary hot water bottle if you’re a little chilly.
You can visit Camping Bugs to find out more about this unusual set up. It’s technically located in Preston, but its setting leaves you equidistant between this city and Blackpool, providing plenty of opportunities for day trips to either location. As glamping goes, it’s a modern day marvel!
- Manor House Caravan Park
Exclusively for adults looking for a “perfect getaway”, this secluded location is quiet and is close to the centre of Blackpool. It’s essentially hidden away from the hustle and bustle of modern life, with the town of Lytham just up the road and even the Lake District an hour away by car.
It’s a perfect camping trip, also offering days out for couples as Blackpool Pleasure Beach is just up the road! So if you’re a thrill seeker you can camp up at Manor House and then walk on in to Blackpool for a chance to enjoy the thrills and spills of the amusement park, or to go for a walk on Blackpool’s famous Pleasure Beach.
- Haven Marton Mere Holiday Park
The Haven is better known as Marton Mere Caravan park and has many highlights. These include, of course, the Blackpool Pleasure Beach resort (merely 10 minutes up the road by car), an indoor pool, outdoor SplashZone, the on-site nature reserve, local bus stops, and a pottery class for all ages.
It’s a modern facility which has hotel level accommodation, but caravan tourers and campers are more than welcome to visit as there are Euro and Super pitch areas and even monthly lets where it’s possible to really get to know the area.
- Blackpool South Caravan Club Site
The Caravan Club is part of a worldwide caravan community and campers can join up to enjoy autumn and winter offers over the coming months. Whilst this will provide plenty of benefits on future trips, the Blackpool South Caravan Club site is particularly great for summer trips, but shouldn’t be missed during the crisp autumn months as well.
It’s a few miles away from Lytham St Annes, which is a relaxed towns with a lot of history and tourism attractions. It features sandy beaches, but (of course) with the Pleasure Beach just up the road you may want to stay in Blackpool and enjoy all it has to offer.
- Pipers Height & Clifton Fields
The Clifton Fields resort is a family caravan park which is on 60 acres of land. It’s run by a family and is located next to a park, with fantastic modern facilities on-site for caravan owners and campers.
Visitors will find dog walks, the Pied Piper club house for social occasions, a laundry room, toilets and showers on site, and even a zip wire area for anyone looking for some thrills. The Pied Piper includes live entertainment, bingo and quiz nights, boules, a bar, and live entertainment. It’s a great resort for anyone looking to relax in the North West.
In other words, it’s a lively little area which doubles up as an entertainment venue and also provides easy access to the local tourism spots in and around Blackpool.
