Discoverglamping.com interview With Tracy and Jason at Holly Farm Holidays
Can you tell us a little bit about yourselves?
We are Tracy, 39 years old and Jason, 48 years old. We come from south Somerset and have lived in the area all our lives.
Have you always wanted to run a glamping site? How did you get interested in it?
We bought a derelict farm at auction nearly 5 years ago, spent all hours renovating the house for 2 years then started on the outbuildings. We try to be as self-sufficient as possible so we have our own chickens, ducks, pigs, turkeys and a vegetable plot and polytunnel. We wanted a source of income from the land we weren’t really using so thought of Glamping as we have always loved camping (except putting up tents when we tend to fall out!).
What made you pick the location for your glamping site?
We both lived within a few miles of the site and just stuck my hand up at an auction!
Do you get a wide range of different people from different walks of life or are there certain types of guests who come to stay at your site?
We have had everyone from babies (with parents!) to people in their 70’s. Mainly tends to be 20-40 year olds. We have met some really lovely people, people that “Glamp” tend to be much nicer than the 5 star hotel kind of people!!!
When guests stay, do they usually cook on site or do you find a lot like to go exploring and eat out at local places?
We always recommend a couple of really good local pubs for food, The Five Dials at Horton being the main one (2.5 miles away)
Is there BBQ facilities? Yes.
What are the cooking facilities like if they do stay on site? Loads of it! We have BBQ, hotplates, microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge freezer, washing up facilities, all pots pans, BBQ tools, cutlery, plates, bowls etc. etc.
If there was one activity to participate in, landmark, or place of interest that you would recommend guests visit while staying at your site, what would it be and why?
Perry’s Cider at Dawlish Wake, a real old Cider farm with a great shop, tea room and quirky museum, Cider is the taste of Somerset!
What do you think sets your glamping site apart from others?
We are a small, select site so with only 2 accommodations you can guarantee a relaxed and quiet stay if you are on site. Chill in the sun loungers and watch the chickens and ducks. Guests should expect a taste of the country and a very relaxing time.
What has been the most memorable moment that has happened on your glamping site?
Stressed people arriving, are always smiling within a day or two. We get lots of returning visitors who bring friends with them so they can have the whole site to themselves.
Do you provide any services/entertainment/activities onsite or elsewhere for your guests?
I can’t dance or sing but can tell a few stories!
What plans (if any) do you have for your glamping site in the future?
We have planning for another 3 but we don’t really want too many people here as it may detract from the quiet for other guests! However we are considering a tipi or maybe a small straw bale house!
