The Easter holidays are almost with us and me and my darling wife are looking forward to something different. The idea is to go to somewhere warm, maybe to Spain. As usual the winter weather in the UK has been abysmal. Lots of rain, flooding, snow, ice, and strong winds made it as memorable a winter as we could remember.
Last Easter we stayed in the UK and decided to go glamping. That means we spent a wonderful week doing some glamorous camping which is where the word glamping comes from. There’s a whole range of different types of luxury camping accommodation available right across the UK and you can pick North, South, East, West, and be on a farm, or some rustic cabin overlooking a lake. Last year we decided to do something called camping bugs and that was available in Lancashire.
Although the little cabins is are located fairly close to Blackpool, the site itself is very peaceful and well into the country with its own lake for fishing and if you had kids, there was lots of space for them to run around in. They’re something like 20 of these cute wooden camping pods and each of them can sleep a couple of adults and three children. Regardless of the weather outside the pods were fully insulated so that we were snug as bugs in a rug.
We met a few other families there had one particular guy, Adrian was his name, was there with his new wife. One afternoon while he and I were fishing in the lake, a beer in hand, he told me about his stag party that he had last year. All his mates had decided to do a weekend in Prague where there was a particular place renowned for holding some rather fabulous bachelor parties.
Adrian was kind of funny really, telling me about some of the stuff that went on during his party. Apparently there were two more parties being held at the establishment which made it quite a night. It certainly made my stag party seemingly comparatively innocent compared to the shenanigans that Adrian and his friends went through on that weekend in Prague. He showed me a video below that he had downloaded onto his smartphone with scenes from that night. I’m assuming that his wife was not privy or had access to his phone.
The evenings at the Stanley River farm camping pods where we were staying will remain in my memory. We were able to light a campfire and sit around relaxing and have a few drinks while chatting to other couples and made some great friends. If you’re looking for something different for a holiday, I would seriously recommend glamping. Even the one night of wind and rain didn’t bother anybody as the next morning we all headed off for a long walk and a picnic. The fresh air and the sheer comfort of it all are certainly the way to go “roughing it” in style.
